SIP Trunking enables the Sphericall IP PBX to connect to outside voice lines through a service provider softswitch, without the need for costly voice circuits or PSTN media gateways.
Enterprisecustomers now have the choice between SIP trunking or TDM-based voice trunks (T1/PRI) to interface Sphericall IP PBX to the PSTN.
Sphere's SIP Trunking capability is based on SIPConnect the SIP Forum industry initiative defining interoperability specifications based on IETF standards for SIP and VoIP. SIP Trunking enables enterprise customers deploying IP PBX solutions to converge voice and data onto common all-IP connections.
With SIP trunking, the IP media stream from within the enterprise stays as an IP media stream across the boundary of the enterprise-to-carrier, eliminating the need for hardware media gateways at the enterprise edge and carrier edge completely.
The results in several key benefits to both the enterprise and carrier, and establishes a foundation for rich communications services across enterprise boundaries.
Hard Dollar Benefits:
- Capital purchase costs of hardware media gateways is eliminated or reduced
- Ongoing support and maintenance costs of hardware media gateways is eliminated or reduced
- Administrative overhead associated with management of media gateway assets is eliminated or reduced
- Reduction of recurring costs for multiple circuits (some dedicated to voice, some to data) is reduced
- Over subscription of voice channels based on business need is reduced
Soft Dollar Benefits:
- Selection of voice channels, up to a resolution of one (1) create more flexibility to add or remove voice channels as needed for the business
- Reduction of IT/Telecom overhead frees up resources for other functions
- Call quality among IP-based entities is increased
- Flexibility of a DID (Direct Inward Dial) line for every employee creates greater call handling flexibility/efficiency
- Allows complete management of in-house calling plans and integration of communications with business applications
