Memphis City Schools
Customer Overview
Memphis City Schools, the largest school system in the State of Tennessee, serves more than 119,000 students in grades K-12 across 191 schools. Created as a special school district by a private act of the Tennessee General Assembly in 1869, Memphis City Schools (MCS) employs 16,500 people, including about 8,000 teachers, making it the second largest employer in the City of Memphis.
NEC Sphericall Deployment
NEC Sphericall IP PBX is deployed to 20,000 stations in 200 locations throughout the Memphis City Schools that are connected by a common fiber backbone for voice and data.
Advantages of the Sphericall system include phones in classrooms, 5-digit dialing district-wide, consistent performance even during peak periods such as student registration, and features such as voice mail and auto attendant.
Additionally, the emergency calling capability has been reviewed and approved by the police, fire, and 911 emergency departments. Now, whenever a 911 call is made, automatic notification goes to Memphis City Schools Security with information giving the location of the caller.
Because the voice system runs over the same fiber network as data, the process of ongoing network monitoring, management, and support extends to the phone system reducing the overall cost of managing the system.
